  68. <h3>Using the Program</h3>
  69.  
  70.        <i>TealPaint's</i> intuitive interface is largely self-explanatory.  It 
  71.     consists of two main interface screens, the drawing page and the index
  72.     page.
  73.     <p>
  74.  
  75.        On the index page, the images stored in the database are shown as
  76.     small dithered thumbnail representations, and are accompanied by 
  77.     optional descriptive text.  Up to four images in the list can be
  78.     shown at any one time, with the rest accessible by the up and down
  79.     scroll buttons.  To create an image, click on the <i>New</i> button. 
  80.     To view or modify an image, click on its thumbnail representation to go 
  81.     to the drawing page.  To delete, sort, or replicate an image, select it
  82.     by clicking in its descriptive text and choosing an appropriate item 
  83.     from the <i>Edit</i> menu.
  84.     <p>

  86.        The drawing page provides an interface for creating or modifying 
  87.     images.  At the top of the display is is the viewing window which shows
  88.     the current image.  If the image is larger than the display area,
  89.     the pilot up/down scroll buttons may be used to access the rest of the
  90.     image.

  92.  
  93.        At the bottom of the display are the drawing tools and options.  On
  94.     the left hand side are three selection buttons, all of which show the
  95.     current item and bring up a popup window of choices when pressed.
  96.     The first of these is the tool button, which allows selection of the
  97.     current drawing tool.  These include various line, freeform, and shape
  98.     tools, along with a text tool, selector tool, and paint can tool.  The
  99.     second button is the pattern selector which selects the current pattern
  100.     or color (black or white) used by the current tool.  The last button is
  101.     the brush selector, which determines the pen tip shape used by the 
  102.     current drawing tool.

  105.        Two final buttons appear on the drawing screen:  <i>Undo</i> and <i>Done</i>.  The
  106.     <i>Undo</i> button reverts the image back to before its last change.  Pressing
  107.     it twice undoes the last <i>Undo</i>, reinstating the image to the way it was
  108.     before.  The <i>Done</i> button saves all changes and returns to the index page.

  112. <h3>Special Functions</h3>

  114.     <h4>Screen Grab</h4>
  115.  
  116.         The <i>Grab Screen</i> menu item is available on the index page.  The
  117.         Screen Grabber can capture the screen image from most any program 
  118.         and import it into <i>TealPaint</i> as an editable image record.  This is
  119.         particularly useful for, say, importing images drawn in other
  120.         drawing programs.  
  121.         <p>

  123.         To use it, select <i>Grab Screen</i> from the <i>Edit</i> 
  124.         menu and choose an elapsed    time.  Then, switch applications to the 
  125.         one you wish to grab and wait.  When the elapsed time passes, an 
  126.         alert will appear informing you that the image has been capture.  
  127.         When you return to <i>TealPaint</i>, the image will appear as a new record 
  128.         in your image list.

  130.     <h4>Text Tool</h4>
  131.  
  132.         The Text tool allow entry of text onto an image.  To use it, select
  133.         the text item ("T") using the popup tool button, click on the
  134.         display area at the location to type text, and enter text and numbers
  135.         using Graffiti.  To change fonts, use the <i>Set Text Font</i> item from
  136.         the <i>Options</i> menu.

  138.     <h4>Selector Tool</h4>
  139.  
  140.         To use the selector tool, activate it and drag the pen diagonally
  141.         across the drawing surface to highlight a rectangular region.
  142.         Then, click and drag within the highlighted region to move the 
  143.         selected pixels to another location on the screen.
  144.  
  145.     <h4>Cut/Copy/Paste</h4>
  146.  
  147.         When the selector tool is active, the <i>Copy</i> and <i>Paste</i> menu
  148.         items are available.  The <i>Copy</i> item saves the current selected
  149.         area to a temporary buffer.  The Paste menu, in turn, draws the
  150.         current contents of the temporary buffer into the selected area.
  151.         If no area is selected, the <i>Paste</i> menu will draw into the upper
  152.         left corner of the display.  The <i>Copy</i> and <i>Paste</i> menus can be
  153.         used to duplicate regions of an image or copy pixels from one image
  154.         to another.

  156.     <h4>Abandon Changes</h4>
  157.  
  158.         The <i>Abandon Changes</i> menu item returns one to the List Page without
  159.         saving any changes made to the image since entering the Drawing
  160.         Page or the last page scroll.

  165. <h3>Notes</h3>
  166.         When using OS 1.0, the Graffiti state (Caps) indicator overwrites the
  167.     left-hand side of the <i>Undo</i> button on the menu screen due to the
  168.     older, large <i>Caps</i> symbol.  This does not affect the functionality
  169.     of the program.

  172. <h3>Using PicUtil</h3>
  173.  
  174.        When you hotsync your pilot, the most current <i>TealPaint</i> image
  175.     database is stored on the PC in a directory called <i>BACKUP\</i>, which 
  176.     resides in a directory named after your User ID.  This file is called 
  177.     <i>TEALPICS.PDB</i>.

  180.         Use <i>PICUTIL.EXE</i> on a PC to convert images from a <i>TealPaint</i> database
  181.     into two-color .BMP bitmap files, which can be saved, manipulated, or 
  182.     printed from PC programs like the program <i>Paint</i> included with <i>Windows95</i>
